Gulfport Arts Center: SOUTHERN-STYLE HIGH TEA AND POETRY READ

Posted

The Gulfport Arts Center will be hosting a southern-style high tea featuring poetry readings from the newly released “Oasis of Light” - a collaborative book written by The Mississippi Writers Guild: Coastal Chapter and the Gulfport Arts Center.

This celebration will take place on June 22 from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at the Gulfport Arts Center. Tea (iced) and biscuits (cookies) will be served while poets will read their favorite works from the book and artists will be on hand to talk about the art and illustrations chosen for the project. “We’re planning a fun, informal, wear-white, summer solstice affair,” explained J. Michael Dumoulin, Coastal Chapter president. “Flip-flops and decorated wide-brimmed garden hats optional. Our poets – many published for the first time – are a little nervous, but they’re all game to read one, two, or maybe three, of their pieces. At the same time, the Gulfport Arts Center artists who helped illustrate the book will be on hand to explain their work. Both books and artwork will be available for sale.”

The Gulfport Arts Center is located in Gulfport’s historic Carnegie Library, which served as Harrison County’s flagship library from 1917-1966. Gulfport’s Mississippi Writers Guild chapter meets from 5:30-7:30 pm on the third Wednesday of every month. Meetings and membership are free and open to anyone who writes or is interested in writing, publishing, or printing. The group’s informal slogan: “26 letters; infinite potential.”

The Mississippi Writers Guild is a statewide organization with chapters located around the state. It is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization with the purpose of giving all writers a voice. For more  information, visit the Mississippi Writers Guild website: www.mississippiwritersguild.com.
