Library cards do more than check out books

Posted

September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month!  Did you know that a library card can be used for more than just checking out books or other materials from your library?  It also gives you access to:

  • Computers in all areas of the library with printer capabilities,
  • eBook programs, like Boundless and TumbleBooks,
  • Searchable educational databases for various age groups offered through the Mississippi Library Commission, and
  • The ability to log into your personal library account to control things like reserves, renewals, updates to your information, and so much more.

If you need to replace a lost card, there is a fee of $2 to do so.  Library cards issued to patrons for the first time are free of charge.  For more information on how to get a new card, update your existing card, or any of the above mentioned items, please call the library at 228-863-0711.

Family Movie Day will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, in the children’s wing.  We will be showing Steven Spielberg’s An American Tail.

Preschool story time will continue to be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

The library will be closed for Labor Day from Saturday, August 31, through Monday, September 2, and will reopen on Tuesday, September 3, at 9 a.m.

The Friends of the Long Beach Public Library will have their first meeting of the 2024-25 year on Monday, September 9, at 1:30 p.m. in the main wing of the library.  Membership forms for joining the Friends group can be found on the library’s website or at the circulation desk.

There are no meetings planned in September for the Long Beach Board of Trustees.

As a reminder to everyone, Long Beach Public Library’s hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  We are open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.  On Saturdays, we hold our book sale in the main meeting room.  Prices are ten cents each for magazines, twenty-five cents each for paperbacks, and fifty cents each for hardbacks, audiobooks and movies.

For more information about any of our events or offerings, please give us a call at 228-863-0711.  The library is located at 209 Jeff Davis Avenue.

We would like to thank you all for your continued support.  As always, thank you for your patronage, and stay safe!
