Cooking Matters class to be offered August 1

Posted

On Thursday, August 1, Jenna Quave, Community Wellness Planner with the Mississippi State University Extension, will present the program, “Cooking Matters at the Store,” in the conference room of the Pass Christian Library.

The 1:30 p.m. program will include a free pop-up grocery store tour that will provide adults, including college students, with hands-on learning as they shop for food, giving them skills to compare foods for cost and nutrition. Participants will learn how to plan and budget for healthy and affordable meals for their families. Topics will also include information about canned, frozen and fresh produce; the benefits of buying in bulk; how to read food labels and how to choose the healthiest options when grocery shopping.

Each participant will receive a book to take home with recipes and shopping tips.

The class will be presented in a partnership between MSU Extension, Happy Healthy Mississippi and the Pass Christian Public Library.  Class size is limited, so advance registration is recommended.

To sign up for the class, call the library at 228-452-4596.  The Pass Christian Library is located at 111 Hiern Avenue.
